Vertifi Digital Certificates - Getting Started

New users of the certificate authority services provided by Vertifi should perform the following tasks to get set up with a digital certificate for authenticating yourself to an application protected by Vertifi.

Who, What, and Where

Identify which representatives will be performing these functions, what secure functions you want them to perform, and from which PCs. Each representative is entered into an authorization database at Vertifi by your Local Security Administrator (LSA). If electronic access is requested, your LSA will issue a subscription PIN that will allow you to subscribe for and install a Vertifi digital certificate. Each digital certificate issued is mapped to a set of authorization attributes in the authorization database as configured by your LSA.

The financial institution may elect to share authorization attributes amongst a group of representatives via a shared certificate. This can be useful for common operations like Check Photocopy retrieval, where security and accountability may not be as important to you. These certificates would be shared, and would be assigned a name like "Help Desk", or some other name that is meaningful to you.

More sensitive information (e.g., Account Inquiry), and financial transactions (e.g., Funds Transfers), should be protected by certificates that are assigned to specific representatives, and will have a person's name attached.

Authorization

Your Local Security Administrator will establish new representatives via the Vertifi User Administration module. New customers, or customers that do not currently have access to Vertifi User Administration, should obtain and fill out Vertifi's Designation of Authorized Representative Form or EasCorp's Certificate of Authority (Exhibit C-1) Self Administered, describing the user name(s) that you'd like a certificate issued for, and the authorization parameters for each representative.

Install Security Certificates

For each representative, install the certificate authority and personal certificates. To learn more about digital certificates and how they are used for authentication, read the Security Architecture pages. Follow the procedures outlined in Installing the CA Certificate and Installing a Personal Certificate to quickly get set up to access the secure web portals that your certificate unlocks.
