Installing the CA Certificate-Windows XP

Both the Certificate Authority Certificate and End User Certificate pages use the Microsoft Certificate Enrollment Control, an ActiveX control provided by Microsoft which manages the generation of the digital certificate keys and their secure storage within the Windows system. This ActiveX control requires a user's authorization to run.

 

Internet Explorer generates ActiveX warnings via the Information Bar. The Information Bar is show in Figure 1 as the yellow background bar at the top of the browser window.

To authorize the Microsoft Certificate Enrollment Control to run, click on the Information Bar and select Run Add-on from the pop-up menu. Please also note the warning on the web page "WARNING! Microsoft Certificate Enrollment Control Not Loaded!", as in Figure 2.

When the Microsoft Certificate Enrollment Control is allowed to run, the WARNING message and Information Bar will disappear and the page will look similar to Figure 3 below. Click the Download Certificate Authority Certificate link to install the Vertifi CA Certificate.

A Potential Scripting Violation dialog screen will display, as shown below in Figure 4. Select Yes.

The certificate will begin the download to the browser. Once complete, a pop-up box stating Certificate Authority Certificate Installed will display, as shown in Figure 5 below.

Click OK to close out of the Certificate pop-up window. You are now ready to install your personal certificate.
